Graduate Students

PhD graduate research assistantship position available for Fall, 2006. Position is for research related to my NSF-funded grant in the area of landscape ecology (see Host-Parasitoid Spatial/Landscape Ecology). Preference will be given to individuals with strong quantitative skills, prior research experience and evidence of academic excellence. Assistantship includes a tuition waiver and a 9-month salary of approximately $23,250 (depending on degree sought and experience).

I welcome inquiries from prospective graduate students interested in research in opportunities in my laboratory. Possible areas of study are not limited to those described under “Research”, but include all aspects of population and community ecology, including, but not limited to, plant-herbivore-predator interactions, spatial and landscape ecology, conservation biology, and ecological genetics.

If you are interested in joining my laboratory, please send me an email. Include with the message a CV containing a brief summary of accomplishments (educational background, GPA, GRE scores, and academic major) and a statement of potential research interests.

Undergraduate students

I have a half-time research assistant position (20 hours per week) immediately available. The position entails a combination of field research (collecting insects, monitoring plant and insect populations, soil samples, dispersal experiments, etc.) and laboratory work (chemical analysis of soils and plant tissues, husbandry of insect and plants, identification and sorting of field samples, data entry, etc.). Full-time employment in the summer of 2006 is an option.

Research experience is preferred but not required. Preference will be given to students majoring in the natural sciences and those with an interest in a career in ecology. If interested, please send a resume and a brief statement indicating your major, GPA, years at LSU, career interests, and possible work schedule.
