Academic advising is available in the Office of Undergraduate Studies in 101 Life Sciences. Because of the large number of students in the Department, the Office of Undergraduate Studies cannot advise every student individually. This website can answer many of your academic questions and can be used as an “Electronic Advisor”. Also, there are four options available to get individual advising:

1) Office of Undergraduate Studies in Biological Sciences, 101 Life Sciences Building: Bring a current degree audit to the advising session. You can obtain your degree audit online through your PAWS account or you can request a copy from the College of Basic Sciences in 338 Choppin Hall. To schedule an advising session, call 578-5224 to make an appointment with Dr. John Lynn.

2) Students in Research Labs: If you work in a faculty member’s research laboratory, ask the faculty member if he/she is willing to act as your academic advisor.

3) Students not in Research Labs: If you have a favorite Biological Sciences professor, ask them if they would be willing to act as your advisor.

4) College of Basic Sciences, 338 Choppin Hall: Counselors in Basic Sciences can help you with meeting degree requirements, residency requirements, graduation issues and keeping your degree audit current and correct.

Evaluation of Biological Sciences courses from another university for potential transfer credit to LSU can be done in the Office of Undergraduate Studies, 101 Life Sciences Building. Students participating in various exchange programs also need to have courses evaluated for potential transfer credit BEFORE they take courses at another institution. Transfer credit evaluation for courses that are NOT Biological Sciences courses should be evaluated by the appropriate department (e.g. English, Mathematics, etc.). BEFORE making an appointment with Dr. John Lynn or coming to the Office of Undergraduate Studies for transfer credit evaluation, please locate and bring with you:

1) Catalog course description for each Biological Sciences course you want evaluated. Catalog course descriptions can often be downloaded from the Internet. In lieu of a course description, a detailed syllabus that lists the specific topics, textbook, etc. will suffice.

2) Proof that the course was completed satisfactorily. This can be documented in different ways, including a transcript (unofficial is OK), current degree audit, OR printout of transfer credit from the LSU Office of Undergraduate Admissions.
