Becoming a Member (associate membership forms also available, see below)

Alpha Epsilon Delta has certain requirements for membership. These requirements are as follows:

1. Applicants must attend meetings this semester !
2. Applicants applying for full membership may first apply during their third semester (full membership status requires completion of third semester). Transfer students must have a minimum of at least one complete semester at LSU.
3. If an applicant has less than 60 hours on their transcript, he or she must have a 3.5 GPA. If greater than 60, a 3.3 GPA is required. A 3.2 science GPA is also required (biology, chemistry, physics, and mathematics). Advanced placement hours are not include in the hour or GPA requirement.
4. Students must achieve active status in the semester of application. This consists of 9 activity points distributed as:

1. At least 3 meetings during the semester (This will only be excused if applicant has a valid MCAT practice course receipt, or their class schedule if that is where the conflict lies.)
2. You must obtain 6 service points. This means that you may attend any combination of AED-sponsored volunteer projects and ongoing projects. If all five come from projects, great. If all five come from Earl K. Long, great.
3. These are basic requirements. Each and every applicant is encouraged to volunteer as much as possible, as it gives beneficial experience.
5. Application forms must be complete with signature and chapter. An official transcript (no degree audits), your overall GPA, our science GPA, and a $5.00 application fee (which will be included into the $90.00 membership dues) are required at the time of application. A reliable e-mail address is mandatory. Complete applications are to be turned to Dr. Lynn's door in 229 Life Sciences Annex.

Download the national membership application forms in PDF format (Adobe Acrobat Reader) and print offline. The forms for associate membership are different (associate membership form, pdf format)

New Requirements for Active Status:

AED Requirements for Active Status (current members only)

a Member MUST attend THREE (3) meetings per semester. This will only be excused if member has a valid MCAT practice course receipt, or a class schedule if that is where the conflict lies.

a Member MUST complete SIX (6) hours of community service. These can be garnered from the AED-Sponsored Volunteer Activities sheet, or from the individual Service Projects schedule, but nowhere else.

a Outside volunteer activities are not eligible for maintaining active status. We offer ample opportunities to get service points within the organization.

a Attendance at all projects must be monitored, on YOUR PART, by your signing the sign-ins available at all events. If this is an ongoing project, you must get the volunteer supervisor to provide you with documentation that you gave "x" number of hours. If your name is not on a list for a project, then you will not receive points. No exceptions, for meetings nor projects.
