Where are they now?

Patrick Banks (left) studied the effects of hydrocarbon pollutants on fouling communities, went on to lead Louisiana’s state oyster fishery, and now works on coastal restoration in Georgia.
Susan Bolden (right) studied transplantation methods for endangered mussels, and is currently a research associate studying amphibian conservation at Yale University.

Terry Richardson, my first Ph.D. student, studied the foraging ecology of southern oyster drills. He is now an associate professor of biology at the University of North Alabama, and teaches at the Dauphin Island Marine Laboratory.

Paul Johnson studied the conservation ecology of the endangered Louisiana Pearlshell in streams in the Kisatchie National Forest. He went on to work as a research biologist at the Chattanooga aquarium, and now heads Alabama’s endangered species research center.
