The Department of Biological Sciences at Louisiana State
University has a position available for a Postdoctoral
Researcher to participate in research aimed at understanding
the functions of the conserved and uncharacterized DedA
membrane protein family member in E. coli cell division and
phospholipid synthesis (see Journal of Bacteriology 190;
4480. 2008). Position is funded for two years in the laboratory
of William T Doerrler, Ph.D. Required Qualifications: Ph.D.
or equivalent degree in microbiology or related discipline;
ability to conduct independent research. Additional
Qualifications Desired: Experience in molecular biology,
bacterial genetics and/or protein biochemistry.
Responsibilities: conducts research aimed at understanding
the functions of the conserved and uncharacterized DedA

microbiology/biotechnology. The successful applicant will join a multidisciplinary research group focused on
characterization of microbial populations involved with anaerobic reductive dechlorination of halogenated solvents.
Required Qualifications: Ph.D. in a relevant scientific or engineering field or related field; experience with
culture, isolation, and characterization of anaerobic bacteria, bacterial taxonomy, and use of DNA-based techniques (FISH,
DGGE, real-time PCR, cloning, sequencing).
Additional Qualifications Desired: Experience in chemical analytical techniques (IC, GC, and HPLC).
Responsibilities: Conducts research on the characterization of microbial populations involved with anaerobic

Responsibilities: Obtains and analyzes samples from diverse lab and field

using specified analytical methods and instrumentation (esp. GC, HPLC, and UV/Vis
spectrometers); prepares necessary solutions and standards; insures that necessary
supplies are available; provides for maintenance of specialized analytical equipment;
contributes to design or modification of experimental protocols as necessary for
specific research needs establishing and maintaining various microbial cultures
and plants used in microbe-plant assays; orders supplies, chemicals, gases and other
specialized items; maintains paperwork necessary for proper completion of orders;
insures that chemical and supply inventories are suitable for needs, anticipating
such needs based on supply consumption and ongoing research programs; insures that
MSDS sheets for chemicals and supplies are properly filed; sconsults with supervisor
periodically on status of supply budgets; provides some instruction and advice
regarding methodology and laboratory protocols to undergraduate and graduate
students, postdocs and visitors conducting research; provides input and advice to

The Department of Biological Sciences and the Center for Computation & Technology (CCT) at Louisiana State University invite applications for a joint faculty position in Computational Biology, broadly defined.
Required Qualifications: Ph.D.; a successful track record of independent research; areas of interest include, but are not limited to: biomolecular structure/function, systems biology modeling, genomics and computational neuroscience.
Responsibilities: maintains and has a vigorous, extramurally funded research program and contributes to undergraduate and graduate teaching; works closely with faculty in Biological Sciences and other departments at LSU, as well as the CCT faculty to foster the development of a center of excellence in Computational Biology at LSU. LSU anticipates hiring several additional faculty in computational biology in the future. The CCT offers an innovative and interdisciplinary research environment for advancing computational sciences, including a highly competitive computing environment with access to 100 TFlops of computing resources in conjunction with the Louisiana Optical Network Initiative (LONI).
