Glycolysis, Cellular Respiration and Fermentation Tutorial

Glycolysis can be thought of as having 2 phases of the
pathway. The first phase is known as the "energy investment phase"
and 2 ATP molecules are used by the cell for each molecule of glucose in
the pathway. This energy investment is used to 1) "activate" the
glucose molecules and make them more energetic and 2) trap the phosphorylated
molecules in the cytoplasm where the pathway occurs.
