Welcome to the Department of Biological Sciences graduate program website.
This site provides
information for new, current and prospective students. The New Student section is concerned with
getting started at LSU, while The Current Student selection offers information of importance to
students currently enrolled in the department, and the Prospective Student category contains in-depth
descriptions of the department, the faculty,
departmental requirements and how to apply. You may go to this information simply by selecting the appropriate link.
The Department offers M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Biochemistry and Biological Sciences with the
emphases described below. You may simply click on the degree name, below, to get details on the
degree, the faculty, the facilities and how to apply.
- Biochemistry: concentrates on the many
disciplines intrinsic to Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.
- Biological
Sciences: emphasizes modern interdisciplinary approaches
to biology in areas such as bioinformatics, systematics, ecology,
cell biology, and physiology; and also the traditional organism
based approaches such as botany, microbiology and zoology.
Faculty and students also participate in
interdepartmental programs leading to graduate concentrations
in Genetics;
Plant
Physiology; Systematics,
Ecology and Evolution; and Toxicology.
Almost 70 Ph.D. degrees have been awarded by the Department over
the past five years, and former students are in postdoctoral,
faculty, and research and development positions throughout the
nation and the world.
