Exploring, culturing, and describing microbial diversity in extreme environments best describes the current research interests of the RaineyLab.

The environments which we are currently studying include arid and hyperarid lands, high arctic springs, pitcher plants, hazardous waste sites and off shore oil and gas platforms. We use both classical and molecular microbiological approaches in our research. RaineyLab has a number of collaborations with research groups around the world with whom we contribute to the polyphasic description of novel taxa.
