The use of molecular biology to study animal models of obesity. In particular the role of glucocorticoids in the genetic model of obesity known as the fatty rat (Zucker). The role of DNA methylation and protein phosphorylation in these grossly obese animals is key to our understanding of obesity as a disease. Restriction of methlated DNA is an ongoing research project in our lab at the Pennington Center.
