There is always something exciting happening in the SMC! (Socolofsky Microscopy Center) Research faculty and students from our own department and many others pursue all sorts of microscopy projects using our sophisticated equipment, and it is my goal to make sure they get the best results possible. We make every attempt to tailor our efforts to the individual's requirements - by consulting, training, assisting, or providing final image data as the particular situation warrants. Prospective users of this center are urged to call and arrange feasibility studies with me or my co-workers Matt Brown and Ying Xiao.
I have been involved with light and electron microscopy since 1970, working
in research laboratories (and taking relevant graduate level courses) in zoology,
botany, entomology and microbiology. I've also managed several central electron
microscopy laboratories serving both biological and non-biological disciplines.
Over the years in various departments I have had extensive experience with diverse
organisms and systems, and have loved every minute of every TEM, SEM, and light
microscopy project.
I am active in several professional societies, and heavily involved in K-12
outreach projects, especially with the College's HHMI Scope-On-A-Rope
(SOAR) programs. I am also extremely pleased to have the opportunity to
interact with Scalar Corporation's SOAR R&D division, which will soon revolutionize
K-12 classroom microscopy!
