Welcome to the Department of Biological
Sciences Undergraduate awards page.
The major functions of Department of Biological Sciences research and teaching.
Our department currently offers majors in Biochemistry, Biology and
Microbiology. Our most outstanding majors excel in the classroom and in the
research laboratories of departmental faculty.
Many of the past winners of our undergraduate awards have established successful
professional careers after graduate school. We invite you to provide a
thumbnail sketch of your current activities by sending us information on your
current activities.
The Microbiology awards are currently partially funded but neither the award for
the Outstanding Senior in Biochemistry nor the Outstanding Senior in the
Biological Sciences has any funding.
Your tax deductible contribution to the following Awards will enhance the
quality of our undergraduate program.
Award
for Excellence in Biology
Research Award in Biology - This
award recognizes an undergraduate in the Biology degree program who has
significant research accomplishments, particularly presentations at
scientific meetings or co-authorship of journal manuscripts.(award

Outstanding Senior in Biochemistry - This award recognizes an
undergraduate in the Biochemistry degree program in the department who has
significant research accomplishments, particularly presentations at scientific
meetings or co-authorship of journal manuscripts. (award

Outstanding Senior in Zoology and Physiology -
This award recognizes an undergraduate in the Zoology and
Physiology degree program in the department who has significant research
accomplishments, particularly presentations at scientific meetings or
co-authorship of journal manuscripts. (award winners)
Charles S. McCleskey Memorial Scholarship - All three
recipients shall be enrolled as full-time students majoring in Biochemistry or
Biology and working in the laboratory of a faculty member conducting
microbiological research. These awards will be given to outstanding juniors.
The criteria for these awards will focus on scholarship, perseverance,
individual attainments, and a sense of social awareness.
At least one of these awards will be given to a minority student, thus
emphasizing Dr. McCleskey's great appreciation of social justice. (award

Amborski Award - A fourth award will be given annually
from the McCleskey endowment to the outstanding graduating senior from
professor conducting microbiological research. (award
winners)
Socolofsky Award - The recipient shall be a Senior and shall be
a full-time student engaged in a research project with one of the faculty
members who is conducting microbiological research. This award recognizes
significant research accomplishments, particularly presentations at scientific
meetings or co-authorship of journal manuscripts. (award
